2. 3D DRAWINGS/CAD

Apart from traditional methods such as hand-drawn sketches and hand-carved wax models, we make use of computer-aided design (CAD) methods to simplify the process and reduce the time for producing prototypes. Our designer first works on a CAD file based on the design, and a 3D printer grows a prototype of the jewelry which is mathematically precise and beautiful.

Depending on a part’s design and complexity, 3D printing can print objects within hours, which is much faster than moulded or machined parts. It is not only the manufacture of the part that can offer time savings through 3D printing but also the design process can be rapid by creating STL or CAD files ready to be printed

4. WAX MODEL

Our experienced craftsmen incorporate the traditional technique to hand carve all the intricate details into the wax model. The model will be heated up in an oven, to create a duplicated master model filled with metal.

The master model is packed into a special kind of rubber and squeezed tight under high temperature and pressure. The rubber forms itself around the master model, creating a three-dimensional impression of the jewelry. The rubber is cut in half to remove the master model, and what we get here is a perfect rubber mould which can be duplicated for thousands of wax replicas for mass production.

Wax tree before casting

6. WAX-TREE BEFORE CASTING

Multiple wax replicas are attached to a large branching wax tree. Creating a tree allows us to cast multiple jewelry pieces at once. The wax replicas are attached to a sprue, which is a thick straight cylinder wax rod and will eventually form a channel for the molten metal to enter the mould.

T-bars, bails, hinges, and other components are precisely soldered into place. Afterward, crystal will be attached in the metal casting.

8. METAL CASTING

When the tree is completed, the whole wax structure is placed in a flask with a special kind of liquid plaster. The cylinder is then put into the oven, where the whole wax structure will be burnt away, leaving lots of jewelry-shaped voids in the hardened plaster mould. The space is then filled with molten metal. Once the metal hardens, the mould is put into a bucket of cold water to dissolve the plaster, leaving the hardened metal tree and jewelry pieces. Individual pieces are separated from the tree and sent for finishing.

Polishing

9. POLISHING

After the metalwork is completed, the next step is to polish the jewelry so as to produce the final high luster on the surface. Firstly, metal is buffed with soft rotary tools. Throughout the process, the wheels with various polishing compounds will be used to achieve the desired luster. Afterward, the metal is polished using harder compounds such as rouge. The rouge burnishes the metal, moving the surface layer around to smooth the fine scratches left from buffing.

10. LASER ENGRAVING

As a modern alternative to hand engraving, we use the laser to achieve complex engraving patterns as well as your brand logo, which are exceptionally precise and consistent.

11. ADD-VALUE TECHNIQUE

We provide a wide range of finishes that can bring your design to life vibrantly and elegantly. Examples include enamel, an opaque form of glass with a multitude of colors, and a variety of hammering and polishing finishes.

12. IN HOUSE GALVANIC PLATING

Plating is also a great way to add breadth to your design. We provide in-house plating options including white gold, 18K gold and rose gold plating, you can also select your preferred microns of coverage.
